Support Literacy In Richmond, VA!

Our Kids Read, in partnership with the Richmond Public Library, is bringing free books for children and bilingual storytelling to this year's Día de los Niños celebration! This is the 3rd year in a row that Our Kids Read has supported this Richmond, VA-area bilingual (English/Spanish) event. Special thanks to OKR Advisory Board member Kortenay Gardiner for representing Our Kids Read at this event.

Our Kids Read will give away over 100 books at this event and will regale young festival attendees with bilingual stories by Johanna Aguilar.

Our Kids Read's presence in Richmond, VA is anchored by longtime VA resident and OKR Advisory Board Member Kortenay Gardiner. Kortenay was in the first group of Our Kids Read volunteers in 2021. Since then, Kortenay has lobbied for OKR support with key Richmond political figures and continues to spread the good word about OKR with all she meets.

This year's Día de los Niños celebration on Saturday, April 27th marks the 3rd time that OKR has participated in Richmond Public Library's Día de los Niños festivities (previous participation was in 2022 and 2023). Our Kids Read will again bring storyteller Johanna Eloísa Aguilar Macias (the students last year loved her!). OKR is a 100% volunteer organization but we do pay contract musicians, storytellers and part-time staff. Please donate to support the cost of bring the best event possible to the students we serve.
