The Petrucci Family Foundation has been instrumental in the growth and success of Our Kids Read from its earliest days. As one of our first major philanthropic partners, the Foundation provided critical early-stage support in 2022, helping us build the organizational capacity and momentum needed to expand our literacy programs and reach more children.
Their commitment deepened over time, culminating in their role as the anchor donor for the establishment of our 16,000-square-foot book warehouse in New Jersey—a transformative investment that dramatically increased our ability to receive, store, and distribute books to children and communities across the country. We are deeply grateful to the Petrucci Family Foundation for its unwavering belief in our mission and its unflagging support of our efforts to put high-quality, diverse books into the hands of children nationwide.
R. Karalakulasingam Family Foundation
The R. Karalakulasingam Family Foundation has been an extraordinary partner in advancing the mission of Our Kids Read through its unwavering support of the Reading Buddies Program over the past several years.
Their generous investment has helped connect more than 600 children with caring volunteer mentors in Charlotte, Washington, D.C., Portland, Oregon, Orange, New Jersey, and New York City, providing students with consistent encouragement, literacy support, and meaningful one-on-one relationships. Thanks to the Foundation’s commitment to educational opportunity and youth development, hundreds of children have strengthened their reading skills, built confidence, and discovered the joy of reading. We are deeply grateful to the R. Karalakulasingam Family Foundation for its steadfast partnership and belief in the power of mentorship and literacy to transform lives.
Baltimore Community Foundation
The Baltimore Community Foundation has played a pivotal role in the growth of Our Kids Read in Baltimore through its generous support, including funding from the Mitzvah Fund and other grants that provided critical seed capital for the creation of the Baltimore Literacy Hub. Their early investment helped transform a vision into reality, enabling Our Kids Read to establish a community-centered space dedicated to expanding access to books and literacy resources for children and families.
Since opening in February 2025, the Baltimore Literacy Hub has distributed more than 15,000 free books to underserved youth across Baltimore City and Baltimore County, helping children build home libraries and develop a lifelong love of reading. We are profoundly grateful to the Baltimore Community Foundation for its leadership, partnership, and belief in the power of literacy to strengthen communities and create brighter futures for children throughout the region.
Nora Roberts Foundation
The Nora Roberts Foundation has been a valued partner in helping Our Kids Read bring the joy of reading to children and families in underserved communities. Through its generous support of our Free Book Festivals and book giveaway programs, the Foundation has helped thousands of children gain access to high-quality, diverse books that inspire imagination, affirm identity, and foster a lifelong love of reading.
Their investment in literacy has enabled families to build home libraries and created meaningful opportunities for children to discover the power of books. We are deeply grateful to the Nora Roberts Foundation for its commitment to educational equity and for helping us ensure that more children across the country have books of their own to read, cherish, and share.
Wawa Foundation
The Wawa Foundation has been a valued supporter of the Our Kids Read Princeton Reunions Literacy Day, helping make this unique educational experience possible through grants that provide drinks, snacks, and other essential support for participating students. Since 2023, Our Kids Read has brought approximately 50 elementary school students from Trenton, New Jersey to Princeton University each year for a day designed to inspire a love of reading, learning, and higher education.
Students enjoy a campus tour, a visit to the historic Firestone Library, a pizza lunch, storytelling and creative writing activities, and receive 10 free books to help build their home libraries. By ensuring that students are welcomed, nourished, and cared for throughout the day, the Wawa Foundation plays a critical role in creating an engaging and memorable experience that expands horizons, sparks imagination, and reinforces the message that college and lifelong learning are within every child's reach. We are deeply grateful for the Wawa Foundation's partnership and commitment to literacy and youth opportunity.
